No dedicated forum to post this on so thought I’d try you gents on here. I’ve recently noticed tiny red & green (mostly green) shimmering/flashing dots all over my 42” Hitachi plasma screen when firing up from cold (TV or DVD) which completely disappear after around 10 minutes. Not immediately obvious from a distance so I don’t know how long it’s been going on or if it’s getting worse.

The screen is now 3 ½ years old & otherwise gives the perfect picture it’s always had; anyone got any idea what’s causing it? Can it be easily fixed or is it a sign of impending doom?

Hi Crocket & thanks for the link. Apart from the little tip about dusting, which had no effect, it doesn’t seem to cover what I’m seeing. I’m familiar with dead pixels which show up as black dots but this appears as very tiny coloured dots that randomly twinkle on & off.

It suspecting it has something to do with the 3 colour guns (do plasma TV’s have colour guns!) & I’m really guessing now but as it disappears after around 10 minutes, wondering if it’s heat &/or voltage related, possibly linked to a circuit board or component breaking down; anyone got any other thoughts?

No plasma tvs dont have colour guns  Thats why they are flat . . .

IMO that article is completely rubbish - plasma screens are not all that delicate, I suspect this comment refers to LCD screens, which dont have a hard glass front. It also refers to laptop displays. These are LCD, not plasma. They wanna get their facts straight.

Richard, have you tried emailing hitachi's tech dept?
