Flat roof options

I'm forming a 'flat' roof on a small lean-to. It's 1.8 x 0.7m, and considering the options of EPDM or lead.

As it's such a small area, the cost of lead isn't prohibitive, so I'll probably go for the traditional option.

I'm of the opinion that it could be done in one piece, albeit with extra flashing on the abutted wall etc.

Would that seem the logical choice to the more experienced?

You will be slightly over the maximum in one piece, but if you go for it make sure you put some breathable membrane under the lead, so that the lead can move freely, Code 5 minimum.

Shame just over 1.5m. The maximum length. An expansion joint or for it to be stepped will be required. Of course EPDM may be easier but lead will look nice and traditional. Make sure you apply a patination oil as soon as possible to the lead once it's installed to protect it.

Thanks for that UC & CL. I was hoping to get it in one length, but I'm sure it's only right, as you say I'm gong to need a step joint.

What's the smallest step I could get away with? I'm guessing 50mm.
I'm a bit restricted on height as it's over the back door so can't lower the roof and I can't make it any higher as it meets the existing pitched slate.

Zinc sounds a bit 'specialist'. I'm pretty good with lead but wouldn't know where to start with zinc!

Like the sound of it though . . .

You will really feel the benefits of zinc if you are going to live till you are 305 yrs old, or you are a mere mortal just use lead.
