Just registered as this forum seems to be a really good source of advice. The recent very wet weather has crystallised a problem.
Water is pooling an a flat roof porch of approx 3m x 2.5m. The back of the porch adjoins the front of the house, and one side is adjacent to a flat roofed garage which drains satisfactorily. However the water on the porch does not seem to drain on to the garage, possibly due to a garage extension and re-roofing many years ago.
There is a good slope on the roof away from the house but the porch has an approx 75mm "rim" around the edge behind a fascia board. As the rain continues the depth increases until it simply overflows the front edge. The purist approach may be to re-roof with a correct fall and drainage but I suspect this would be expensive.
Are there any alternatives - eg: cutting away some of the rim and allowing run off into a gutter. Given the size of the roof does it need a proper soak away
Any thoughts appreciated
Terry
