We've had our chimney breast replastered with board then skimmed. Some cracks appeared as it dried, so I cut them out a bit and filled with good filler recommended by a decorator, and repainted. But they all appeared again, I think because we have a log burner perhaps this causes movement in the wall slightly?

Unsure whether to try another go filling now it's had time to ''settle" or something else. Decorators caulk is flexible I think but not designed to be sanded flat?
Can I find a decent filler that will allow some flex... Or would you recommend I try something else?

ive had this trouble before in an extension we built,,,you could try painting it with a flexible paint,,,like a latex paint such as silk or vinyl,,,latex paints have enough flex not to show fine cracks...

You are correct that caulk cannot be sanded.

If you enlarge the gaps you can gun in some Tourpet Fibracryl. It is like a caulk but has tiny fibres. Let that shrink back and then use a filler of your choice over it. I would probably use Toupret Redlite. It is easy to sand and the dust doesn't cling to everything.
