i need to sound proof the up stairs floor of my house to building regs standards. i have put rock wool inbetween the joists, will screw the floorboards down firmly. But then i have been told to put down a sound deadening matt. and then a floating floor on top of that. Is this right and can i buy one from a shop because if i order from the internet and have to book a day off work to wait for it to be delivered.
Can anyone give me an "idiots guide" to what a floating floor is and could i fit one? I know it is to help with impact sound but where do i get one.
Many Thanks

This is advice from an online shop but are they just trying to sell me unnecessary stuff?

1. Decouple the ceiling using 15mm deep Resilient Bars with 30mm (2 x 15mm) of high density Acoustic Plasterboard screwed to them.

2. Install as a loose fit 100mm of AMW100 Acoustic Mineral Wool between the joists.

3. Screw down the original floorboards or replace with 18mm moisture resistant t&g chipboard flooring.

4. Overlay with 2mm of SBM5 Soundproofing Mat.

5. Overlay again with 10mm of R10 resilient insulation

6. Finally install on top 18mm of QuietBoard high density Acoustic Flooring as your floating floor.

The budget price for all of the above is about £81.00 per sq mtr plus VAT.

I'm not going to do anything to the ceiling! and i cant afford the price quoted, so is it all necessary? I would be grateful of any advice.
