Hi, we're planning to wall mount our tv in the living room but I saw some good DIY floating walls on youtube and got amazed with the lightings. The construction seems fairly easy but I'm wondering what type of woods/timber I should use to hold a 40" telly as I dont want it to fall off the wall and break it.

Could someone give me advices about materials required for this type of project?

Thanks in advance.

38mm x 89mm PAR (2" x 4") is typically used in a stud wall.

I'd never heard the term "floating wall before". Is it for some kind of acoustical deadening effects?

Screw on 3/4" ply, and presumably cover it with 12mm plaster board.

You could also set noggins at the height where your screen will fix to the framing/ply.

None of my business but i'm still baffled by why this construction is desired for hanging a screen or speakers - given that i know nothing about digital or acoustic things.

Cool thanks, will check some materials out later. wall in my living room is quite wide and my tv unit isn't really filling the space out, but I'm building this project to improve the appearance of the living room.

I guess better cable management as well as my I can't run the cables in the wall so going to build my own just for the media entertainment.

I already have some spare 18mm MDF laying around, btw 3/4" screws to hold the frame to the wall? still not sure whether I should just mount the tv straight to the wall or mount it on the wood frame.

So materials are:
12/18 plasterboard
3/4" stud timber?
what screw sizes do I need?
