I have a downstairs bathroom and have discovered a damp reading in the central area and when floor covering was lifted the meter indicates dampness. The area concerned has old sticky adhesive which caused discolouring of the thin floor covering which was vinyl. Any tips on removing the adhesive from the screed floor please. I assume the reading is from the dampish adhesive.

the damp reading is most likely damp coming through the concrete - it would need a liquid dpm to sort.

getting the tiles/adhesive off is a right nightmare. i use a propane blow torch and scraper (probably best hiring). make sure room is well ventilated and if poss use a p3 mask.

a thin top screed 2 or 3mm of self leveller is another option leaving the adhesive in place (if u can accommodate the increase in floor level).
