Hi,

Looking over the EPC of the house I have just bought it's been recorded that there is no floor insulation.. This was assumed based on the age of the property I guess which was built in 1956 and had a concrete floor..

What options are there for retrofitting floor insulation of some type and what does it cost per sq-m approximately?

Thanks..

There are few options if it has a ground bearing concrete floor. Any addition to the existing floor will mean doors, skirtings and door frames all need to be raised. The stairs will no longer work either not to mention any kitchen units or toilets etc A thick carpet beckons ......

Very little heat escapes through a floor.

Keep in mind that heat always moves to cold.

Any heating you have in a room, may heat a small area immediately below the heater and just in front, the heat will radiate in all directions, most heat will rise heating the upper walls, ceiling and then drop as it looses its heat; before crossing the floor on its way back to the heater.

If you buy and use an infrared temperature gun, you can point it at any surface to read its temperature.

Probably, the best you can do, is to cover the floor with inch thick polystyrene sheet, covered with t&g, glued Oriented Strand Board creating a monolithic one piece floating floor.

When fitting make sure the new floor is not in contact with the walls, skirting board or anything else that can cause the little heat that's in it to escape.
You will find that this procedure will make a big difference your comfort, no more cold feet.
