flooring underlay

I was installing wood floor underlay for the first time yesterday(HAPPY NEW YEAR), and I messed up the first two rows. I cut them too short will it be ok simply to cut a strip to go in the gap or will I have to use some special tape. ALso, I came to the end of a roll half way through a roll, should I stick the overlapping underlay to the bit below or cut it so that it is flat.




please help....

(Also the smell this morning is suffocating me, stinky underlay)
