hi, when taking out and indirect cylinder ( swapping for a combi system) is it normal just to cap the flow and return that come to the cylinder in the cylinder cupboard?

Depends on what's been quoted for but if removing the pipework means lifting loads of carpets or laminate it can be. It's also very dependent on the pipework layout.
