I am considering buying a multi function installation tester and have always been impressed with Fluke.

The 1650 series has three models the 1651, 1652 and 1653. Cost wise the 53 is £200 dearer than the 1652. For that £200 you get a PC interface, internal memory, neither of which interest me. However, the spec states that the 53 has earth measurement whereas the 52 doesn't.

Any idea what is meant by this? It's not earth loop impedance as both models can measure that.

Anyone used these models and have any comments for or against them.

Good question, actually. I was considering the lower spec 1651, but would be tempted to splash out on the 1653.

Have Fluke upgraded their crocodile clips yet? The ones on my 1651 are s****e!

To measure earth resistance on the 1653 you'll need to buy a separate earth testing kit. It's for testing earth conductors.

Personally I quite like alphatek, and have been using them for years.

They are a rugged tester, batteries last for ages, and they are easy to use.
