Flush system to stop potterton profile 100e overheat sensor

Not sure which type you expected him to buy but whilst cheap NTCs could be used they would need to be cross referenced from the resistance to the temperature which is a little tedious.

A direct reading on the temperature is far more useful and so much easier.

K type thermocouples are readily available ( and cheap) for multimeter use.
Use them constantly and find them perfect. Wrap the tip round pipe using aluminium tape. What could be simpler?

Thats exactly what you need and as I said little more than those dial types!

In practice for most measurements you can just hold them against the pipe with a hankerchef or piece of cloth or tissue to prevent burning your hand.

For repeated measurements where you want to leave it on a Velcro strip is quick and convenient. ( Or masking tape if no Velcro ).

many thanks, thermometer arrived today, just waiting on the aluminium tape to arrive now, can't measure directly above boiler as pipes are hidden behind wall, so will have to do at airing cupboard.

sorry been difficult to progress this as dislocated my shoulder Friday night. however, put the thermometer on today and some scary results. with just the hw running as been shut off for a few hours this morning;
outlet from boiler reached 104.6 C (when the motorised value closed)
return to boiler reached 70-80 C
look like one the electrodes on the thermometer wasn't making great contact even though stuck on with aluminium tape.

think there must be something wrong as the boiler shouldn't continue heating to this temp, could hear the pipes rattling as well, so very worrying.

thanks for any advice.

cheers Adrian

sorry forgot to add, boiler was on setting 2-3, and hw cylinder stat is 50C could it be a dodgy cylinder stat?

any ideas please?

didn't change the he cylinder stat as Happened with the CH running as well. from what I've read it seems it can be either the control thermostat or the overrun thermostat or both?

any steer would be appreciated so can get gas engineer to fit.

thanks
