Foot dimmer for 300W Halogen

these Standard Lamp uplighters with a 300W Halogen (the tube, like you use in floodlights) come with a foot-operated dimmer switch. The dimmer doesn't last long.

I have used a simple connector to replace one, which makes it permanently on at full power, as I have not been able to find a replacement foot dimmer. Are they available anywhere,or is there something I can rig up at the plug and socket end?

I have a Smiths Timeguard remote controlled dimmer inline with mine - works a treat & is the height of laziness.
