I have started excavating my footings where my garage door is (window and 15 courses of bricks replacing door) in readiness for the building inspector. I have found out that the house sits on 8" footings, however a couple of people have told me the BI will want a1M footing for the infill. I have dug out .5M so far which is already double the depth of the house footing. Do you think this will be enough or what is he likely to say. The ground is heavy clay.

One more thing.

I've been told the old garage floor slab will need to come up, any ideas on depth that will need to be excavated below finished floor level and what it consists of i.e. so many mm of mot/sand insulation/concrete and top screed dpm what order etc?
