Hello,

Before I give up at take my car into a dealers, can anyone assist??

I have a 2001 5-door 1.8lx petrol Ford Focus.

About a week ago I noticed that my side and rear lights had failed. Also the light to the instrument cluster and (I think) the heated rear windscreen. All other lights/indicators/accesories are working fine.

I have checked all the fuses and they seem ok, both in the main and auxiliary fuse boxes. According to the handbook, there doesn't seem to be one particular fuse that covers all these items.......so with the thinking of Sherlock Holmes I'm guessing that the fault may lie elsewhere!

The handbook incidentally shows fuses being where there aren't any and vice versa....

Any ideas before I saddle myself with a large bill....having said that, I know that sometimes a quick session on the diagnostics and an hour or so's labour can be better than the cussin' and swearing I've been doing over the last few days.

Any ideas....even if only to stop me looking like a complete lemon if I take it in!

Check for broken wires inside the rubber grommet that comes from the roof to the tailgate, common fault on a lot of hatchbacks.

;)

the escort models used to suffer with the stalk switch that caused the rear lights and instrument lights to fail,i had 2 go on different models, sounds like a similar problem, not sure on the window, could that be down to dirty contacts on the tailgate? the escort also suffered with these but i dont know if the focus has them

If access the headlight switch, can you measure the voltage on the red/green wire? You may need the ignition turned on, you should see 12v on this wire which is the supply to the switch.
