My living room had an old fireplace in it that has been bricked up really badly - there is now a big hole in the wall (the previous owner had taped some plaster board over the hole then wallpapered)

I think it might be easier frame out the mess and put a decorative surroung in. Do I need to do anything about ventilation?

Cheers :D

I'm not sure if I'm reading this right.

You will need ventilation if you're still blocking it in.If it's on the outside wall then you can put the air vent outside saving you having to put it inside. If you are opening the fireplace again make sure the lintel is still there & the ventilation will be okay as it goes straight up to the chimney
