Front door colour - same inside and out?

Hi

I'm going to paint my new oak front door this weekend before it's hung (just front and back. the sides will have to be done after it's trimmed). It's veneered oak so I was going to stain the outside using Sadoline. However I'm considering painting the inside white to brighten up the entrance area and match the trim.

Any thoughts on this? I can't find much on the web, a few brief mentions in forums, that's all. Do many people do this?

As a rule it's OK so long as both sides have the same level of protection.
If for example one side is painted and the other treated with oil or wax that will wear off. The door can absorb more moisture on one side and bow as a result.
As a rule on an inward opening door the hinge side is treated as outside and the lock side as inside. So when it's open standing outside you see the front and woodstain edge, from inside you see the painted side and the painted edge. Top and bottom well take your pick, I guess the top will be seen from the stairs when open so perhaps paint.

thx footprints. I was planning to use spirit-based paints both sides so that sounds fine. From my research, oil and wax are insufficient protection for an exterior surface anyway. Makes sense re. the colours of the edges
