I have a problem with my front door. I have searched the forum but can't find the answer. I have a composite front door with handles that you push up to deadlock and the key is required to open the door from the outside. The handle on the outside stopped working, it is now just hanging down and does nothing. The handles on the inside and out are not at the same level. I asked a customer who happens to be the boss of a upvc firm and he said he had never seen this type before. So I am stuck, please help.

Cheers.

Does the door still work with the inner handle???

If yes then its the spindle that goes through the door joining both handles together, now being as its a lever/pad arrangement(as you've explained) the spindle is actually whats called a split spindle meaning the outside hande doesnt do what the inner handle does, i would guess its failed in ther centre where magic takes place.

If the inner handle just spins right around and doesnt do anything either my guess is the locking mech has failed in the region where the spindle goes through it.

Either way you need to take the handle off to see, 2 screws on the inner handle is all that holds them on

The inside handle works as it should. The handles are not in line though, the outside handle is lower than the inside. Anyone seen this type before ?
Can post a pic if it helps.

Cheers.
