At the bottom of the front door below the metal sill (see photo) we have small amounts of wet and the wood below is also wet. Cannot see any wet patches under the mat though. Can this be replaced/repaired or do we need a new door.

is your photo the inside or the outside?

Show us both please.

Also the sill with the door open

And the top of the door, open, to see if it is wet.

I see your door has a fake woodgrain effect. What is it made of? A photo of the edge of the door where the lock(s) are will also give some clues.

Is the door black on the outside and white on the inside?

trickle some water from a kettle or teapot onto the sill and into the trough. It should drain away from the doorway, away from the house, towards the outside, and thence towards the road, without leaving puddles or running towards the door. Does it?

there should be drainage holes in the trough, possibly at the sides. use a hoover or small brush to remove any dirt from the trouch. You may need stiff wire to unblock the drainage holes.

If it is draining correctly, you can add a weatherbar to throw any water than runs down the surface of the door outwards, to handle rare occurrences of driving rain onto the door in strong winds, but my first thought is that the drainage and slope are not correct. This sometimes happen if the slabs or tiles outside the front door are too high or sloping the wrong way, for example when they are added after the door has been fitted, or laid on top of a previous paving.

I can see some kind of bracket on the external wall. is there a small roof? It should direct water away from the door but may be running off and splashing up. Stand back and take a wide shot.

Could be condensation on the cold metal threshold?.

We have a cast front step and that gets wet with condensation due to it's temperature, plus the door key if you leave it in!.

can you take a pic same as your first pic but from outside?
and a pic showing that part of the front elevation?
the door's not the problem - the problem is the threshold arrangement.
it seems the original frame was set too far forward - all frames should have a min set-back of 75mm.

the trough was full of mud which has been cleaned and yes there are three drainage holes which had muck in them. Cleaned them and poured water in and yes ran outdoors. However last two days with no rain still wet patches on the wood below the sill

Yes steps too high, should be two courses below threshold .
