Hi,

the interior nob for deadlocking the door fell off (kids!). It seemd ok until we got back after being out. The door has deadlocked itself. I was able to get access via back door.

There is now a small hole where the deadlock knob used to go in.

How can I 'un' deadlock the lock without paying for a locksmith to drill it all out???

Thanks

Yours, in DIY disaster, !!!

Just found out it is the 'Snib' bit that has fallen (or pulled !!) off.

Is there a way of putting something in the small hole to open the latch or stop it deadlocking??

Been able to get a coat hanger down the hole and unlock the deadlock.

However !!!! i seem to have bent the internal spring as the lock hinge won't spring back.

I haven't got a clue how it should work??

Ah Ha !! - Fixed it !!!

The spring has a shorter bit. You put the shorter bit against the lock housing and then bend the longer end back on itself, resting it in the groove of the actual brass lock.

Now fixed and sorted.

To stop the 'snib' falling off I've put some thick carpet tape on it.

A DIY job for the future is to replace the whole thing and also put in an additional 5 lever mortice lock (BS).

:D
