Our central heating comes on with the programmer. However, during the evening it just turns off and the house becomes cold. The only way I can get the heating back on is by turning the hot water off on the boiler until it fires up. Then the heating comes on and I can put the water back on. I have changed the battery in the room thermostat. Any ideas on what the problem is and how I can fix it.
Much appreciated.

Does the heating turn off at about the same time every evening.
what boiler. traditional, or combi.

Yes, the heating does seem to go off at asimilar time. The boiler is about 5 yrs old and is a traditional one

Usually it's a wire missing or loose , in the connection box or programmer.

If you are saying that it turns off about the same time.
Than maybe you have it timed in on you programma without realizing it you need to check all the times and see if this will help.
