Hi all,

I need to check to see if my boiler has blown a fuse. I don’t seem to have a spur. Only the box attached. Is the fuse within there?

Hope this finds you well and thanks for your help.

That's just an isolator, so the fuse will be elsewhere. The whole heating system should be fed from the same fused connection unit. If there is a programmer or wiring centre with a FCU next to it that will likely be it.

The problem comes when boilers are moved or changed and the fused connection unit tends to be left in situ and an isolator is then fitted next to the boiler for maintenance.

Boilers also have internal fuses, but they usually require an RGI to check and replace.

Looks like an Ideal boiler of some sorts. I think they have a fuse inside if so it will be on or near the main board which is inside the cover and will have a pull down section. Problem is your not suposed to take the cover off unless Gas registered.

Stem, you hero!

I was going to take the isolator apart.

Though after your help I traced the mains back to a cupboard, which had the spur inside. I’ve swapped the fuse and can now take a shower.

Thanks ever so much.

It's unusual for a fuse to blow without reason, so unless you are aware of a fault that has been rectified, it's quite possible it will blow again.

The fuse should be of the value specified by the boiler manufacturer, which in the case of most boilers is 3A. If you have fitted a higher rated fuse, and the fault reoccurs you may find that some damage is done before the fuse blows. Boiler PCB's and programmer contacts are quite sensitive to such things.
