Fused spur for outside light

I've just moved into a new house and the outside patio light is run from an FCU off the existing socket. There is then a light switch to the right and the wiring then runs through the conduit on the left of the photo, up the exterior of the interior wall and out to the light fitting.

As you can see the installation is not very aesthetically pleasing.

I would like to move the light switch up higher on the interior wall and chase in all the cabling in the safe zone where the 2 walls meet.

My question is this: does there need to be the second switch for the light or can I just run from the main ring socket using 2.5mm T&E to the FCU on the wall and have this as the light switch?

Thanks

Do I still need a separate switch for the light though or can I just use the FCU switch on its own?

You can make use of the FCU, as the only switch. It's generally a good idea, with any power circuit which go outdoors, to use a double pole switch or FCU. Then the outdoor circuit can be fully isolated, in case of faults - both L and N.

It's a bit odd that they went to the trouble of fitting a switched FCU, and a single pole light switch.

It's quite possible this was done for a reason.
