Fused spur switch seized and no pwr to appliance

Have a dishwasher bought new, been using for about 6 months.

Is on it's own 16amp MCB, with a 13amp fused spur at wall.

Power lost half way through a cycle last night.

Went to switch off spur and rocker switch won't switch – like it's seized/locked. Also as I put pressure on it to turn off, heard a cracking, sizzling sound!

Checked MCV, not tripped but switched off anyway.

Fuse in spur looks blackened on ends but is actually OK!

Not got spur off wall yet to look inside as it's in a cupboard hard to access but presume the switch failed/burnt out.

My concern is what could cause this? No idea how old it is, came with house!

Any advice appreciated.

Probablly just a case of an old switch developing a bad contact then getting hot and doing itself further damage until it failed completely.

The fused spur clearly needs to be replaecd. If the cores of the wiring are heat damaged they need to be cut back to clean copper. Depending on how much slack there is this may mean more wiring work.

Could be crappy termination/contacts causing them to heat and burn, then weld so that the switch doesn't move.

Thx guys, hopefully the dishwasher will fire up when I replace the switch then! It has too, got a puddle of dirty water in it, phoooooeeey!

Replace the fs and all will be good. Do check the wiring for damage, all copper should be bright and clean. All terminals nice and tight.

Put a plug on the DW flex so you can get that pumped out etc.
