I will be capping my gable ends as the next leg of my capping journey.
Upon inspection of them they appear to have a very wide drop between soffit line and bottom

Questions I've got seeking help;
1. Is this this deep for Aesthetics or this deep to provide enough coverage to the timbers?
2. Is 9cm uncapped going to ever be a problem, I can just fix the soffit to the existing line and cap over existing board.
Neighbours have the same original house structure and they do appear to have a much more narrow running bargeboard, I'm wondering if the installer run a cut along to not have a gap, but tbh I do think it looks a little odd.
Just placing on top saves me a lot of aggro tbh, but not sure if the soffit needs trim on each side as well (yet).
