Gap around new windows

Hi,

We have just had 2 new UPVC windows installed to replace old wooden ones in our dormer. They have been fitted into a wooden frame.

My question is is it normal to leave a sizable gap (varies between 2-10mm) around the window and the wooden frame of the building? There appears to be very little sealant or foam and I can see daylight in some areas and through to the external cladding in others.

I am a bit concerned as we had them replaced to stop water getting in in the first place. And given these windows are west facing they get a lot of sideways rain.

Your welcome, glad I could help!

crank39, yes the install was finished as far as they were concerned, we had a plasterer coming to skim the walls and ceiling so asked them not to fit any trim around the interior of the windows. My concern was how weather tight they were given the huge gap and daylight I could see, which proved founded when rainwater started getting in not an hour after they left.

They sent out another installer who re-installed one of the frames and sealed the outside of the other. However upon closer inspection they have left fairly deep scratches in the frames and managed to accidentally rip a radiator from the wall during the work this time. So I am now pursuing them to find out what they intend to do about that. I am just glad the room's are not in use right now.
