Gap Between Skirting Board and Wall

Hi - I have had the skirting boards replaced in a couple of rooms. The room is now ready to be decorated, but there are small (3mm) gaps between the new skirting and the wall.

What would be the best filler and method to fill these gaps?

Fill gap, wet finger and run it over the bead to give a smooth finish, any excess can be wiped off using damp cloth or sponge.
