Hi,

I've recently had a small area paved with slabs. The last part the builder did was to sweep some sand / sandy-looking-stuff ( ) over it. My question is if all the gaps should be filled? The majority are not and I don't know if it matters or not. The gaps are very small.

Thanks for any feedback.

Ideally they should be entirely filled to prevent water getting under the slabs and moving the sub base.

It sounds like kiln dried sand joints Is it on small flags like 400x400mm or block paving.

They should be filled but it needs to be done in bone dry weather preferably when it has been dry for a day previous as well.

A joint less than 5mm will have to be jointed with dry sand.

More than 5mm and it will need mortar or jointing compound of some kind.

Get them back to sort it out.
