My garage runs along the side of my house and can be accessed from my kitchen. We haven't used it as a garage for many years and I have partitioned it to make a room and utility. To create better use of it I would like to remove garage door from front and install a composite door and window but someone suggested that I would need planning permission for this. Is this true as I'm not altering the size or shape ?? I have contacted my local council but haven't had a reply.

Thanks for that. Looks like the floor is biggest issue but that should be ok as garage was extended forward 8 years ago and the floor was dug out then and it comes out approx 2ft further than door. Just made the mistake of having a garage door refitted at the time.
