I just wanted to know what the process is for relaying a garage flat roof?

it is currently felt and leaking and I wanted to understand what items I needed to buy in order to put a new felt covering on it. The current roof is just felt tacked over OSB so stripping it back to Bare OSB wont be a problem.

Ive been watching youtube videos and they are all so very different and and none have explained what the entire process is.

I think I need these items.....

1: Felt Underlay
2: Felt adhesive
3: Flat roof felt
4: Blowtorch :)

Can someone who knows point me in the right direction of what products I should be using for this job and what the process is to get it done.

I've done shed felt but never on a garage before and cant afford to pay anyone to do it so want to try it for myself.

Many Thanks
Luke

Strip old felts off to bare surface.
Ensure surface is sound and dry.
If surface is planks then lay a layer of cheap underlay, nailed with felt tacks at 300mm centres.
If surface is large boards like plywood etc then skip the nailed layer but tape the joints of the boards using 100mm strips of felt, torched.
Torch a layer of underlay. Something like 2mm thick polyester based torch on felt. (Also use strips of this stuff for your taping).
Torch a top layer. Something like 4mm polyester based torch on felt. Either choose a mineral surfaced felt, or paint traditional "black" felt with bitumenous solar reflective paint.
Make up edge details as you go, ie do every area with layer one, then every area with layer two etc.
On all layers make side laps min 50mm and end laps min 100mm. Don't lap layer one at the same places as layer two etc - stagger them.
Don't put too much heat on the felt, and try not to stand on the top layer as your feet will mark it until it cools.
You won't need adhesive with the above as the felt has tar already on the back ready for you to melt.
You will need hooked stanley blades, a scraper to hold felt in place while torching, and loose fitting rubber gloves (easy to throw off when you torch them).

Edit...Go to a roofing merchant for felt supplies, maybe like Asphaltic.

Thank you for all the information, I think I am a bit better equipped to tackle this job now, just as soon as it stops raining :)

Many Thanks
Luke

Or just use epdm and skip all the hard work and have a roof covering which will last twice as long.

Twice as long as ? A system that involves a half day training course, or a system installed by a roofer?
