A customer of mine proposes knocking through her bedroom wall and converting part of her adjacent garage into an ensuite w.c. and shower.

Her builder, against my instincts and advice, wants to avoid provision of underground drainage (which certainly is Building Control notifiable) and instead use a Saniflo unit.

I am to quote for said Saniflo and associated plumbing. I don't like or trust these but that's not the issue here.

My question: Does the project as outlined require Building Control notification?

Yes.

The heat loss issues alone would warrant a visit as well as perhaps part P etc.

Presumably the garage is just a garage and would require floor, walls and roof (insulation) upgrade?

Saniflo is a last resort, a VERY last resort.

You are right to insist upon regular drainage i would look at this too.
