Garden Lawn Flooding?

Hi I have recently moved into a bungalow but I am having problem with the Garden lawn flooding! there is loads of clay underneath the soil, I dug out a channel round the sides of the lawn but and got lots of soil out but the clay just seems to go down and down. Is there any way of solving a problem with a water logged garden?
