Garden Office Build Thread- Start to finish with pics!

Thanks also for establishing that I did respond appropriately to beefpotnoodle's questions in respect of building dimensions and their interaction with the relevant regulations.
That will be the one which you did NOT quote, will it, thus making it far from obvious that "I did enough research to ensure I needed neither planning nor Building regs" only applied to dimensions and location?

Although, I must add that having seen your "helpful" posts in the past, I'm pretty sure that your post contained no real altruistic intent in respect of educating myself or any other visitors to this forum.
Just goes to show how wrong you can be.

I think that in all probability, your post was most likely a thinly veiled (albeit transparent) attempt to belittle someone who you (wrongly) thought you knew better than.
Just goes to show how wrong you can be.

You said things about needing, or not needing, Building Regulations approval based on the size of the building.

I pointed out that there was also electrical work to consider.

The words that I wrote were

"As you will if it contains a consumer unit or any new electrical circuits" and "So no notifiable electrical work then?".

That you could see those words and with even a scrap of rationality decide that I was trying to disparage you beggars belief.

I hope that this exchange has equally been a learning experience for you and has helped to educate you in the benefits of:

1) Being more informed, and;
2) Reading threads more thoroughly
Has it helped educate you in not being such a **** as to look at words written down, deciding that there are other words there of your own invention, and then blaming the person who did not write the imaginary words because you don't like what you imagined?

Heeding both lessons above will ensure that you avoid blundering in and should help limit your future potential for embarassing yourself on a public forum.
If you think I've been embarrassed by an idiot like you, with your febrile inventions, then you can add being deluded to your list of intellectual shortcomings.

However, even badly informed opinions contribute to the debate
The only opinion I vouchsafed was regarding the wording of the Building Regulations. Everything else was a fact. Are we to take it that you don't agree about the wording of the regulations?

Thanks for your reply, BAS.

First of all- I think you're probably right, perhaps your original post wasn't made with the sole intention of disparaging someone.

I was definitely wrong to assume that. In my defence, I cite your track record of sticking your nose in where it's not wanted, antagonising the OP and then dragging the thread off-topic into a barrage of personal insults. This coloured my perception of you and ergo my response.

Whilst I have no intention of corresponding with you any further, I did want to address one point you made:

You felt it was appropriate to get personal and make a point about my intellectual shortcomings (of which I concede- I do have plenty). However, after reading your posts, I'm pretty sure that you're in no real position to make such comments:

It took me several attempts to decipher your last post, let alone make any sense of a few of the more clumsily-worded sentences.

Anyone with an iota of intelligence will be able to see that you have poor sentence structure, an inconsistent approach to punctuation, a distinct lack of critical reasoning skills and the inability to cogently articulate yourself via the written word.

All of these clues lead to the inevitable conclusion that you're someone who has a moderate intellect but very little in the way of formal education (O-levels and a city and guilds in a technical discipline, maybe?).

You probably mix with people in your daily life who are even less educated than you are and that has led you to the incorrect assumption that you are in some way intellectually gifted. Unfortunately, this mistaken belief has more to do with your limited interaction with the intelligentsia and a lack of real comparison than it has to do with actual fact.

Your use of the words "Febrile" and "Vouchsafed" are clearly misaligned with your level of intelligence and education, so I can only deduce that you believe the ability to look up words in a thesaurus, then use them in the correct context in a sentence is tantamount to the possession and application of human intellect.

Judging by your prolific productivity on this forum (and the fact that your post was made after midnight), I can tell that you have a particularly rich social and professional life, so I would not deign to drag you away from such pursuits in order to respond to such a trifling imposition.

Best of luck for the future.

Oh, I forgot to mention- I do agree with with you regarding the wording of the building regulations. I've just got better things to occupy myself with.

Thanks for your reply, BAS.

Keep going - you need to get to the point where you realise there wasn't even the smallest element of disparagement in it.

A few of the more? Blimey - that implies several. Care to point them out?

My word, you are good at being wrong, aren't you.

Maybe you should try Mastermind - see if they'll accept "being wrong" as a specialist subject.

Your use of the words "Febrile" and "Vouchsafed" are clearly misaligned with your level of intelligence and education,
Are they really? In what way? Because you've decided I'm not very bright (giving us another shining example of your faulty decision making), then my use of those words has to be "misaligned"?

I wonder if you might benefit from some kind of "Deduction 101" course?

Shall I let you into a little secret? I didn't have to go and look those words up.

Having now hooked an intellectual minnow, I can't really be bothered reeling him in.

It's all too easy- all you need is the phrase "Garden office" and a picture containing a new consumer unit to get a bite.

What a pratt. He's probably off somewhere else trying to fill his quota of 12 trolling posts per day.

No - what you get is clearly worded, uncontentious and non-abusive words of advice. Sadly what the rest of us then got was you getting all bent out of shape because you added all sorts of imaginary things to what I wrote and then found you didn't like what you'd done.

That you think I wrote what I did, not because I genuinely meant it, but because I wanted to cause disruption, or inflame people etc, is one more (do we really need any more?) example of your, quite frankly, desperately faulty reasoning.

But I do find it joyously ironic to note that were you correct, it would of course be I who had reeled you in.

Need I reply that you've just bitten again, BAS?

Getting easier- didn't even need a picture of a badly installed downlight or a poorly defined question about "Part P" this time.

Give a man a fish and he can feed his family for a day.

But give BAS an inkling that something doesn't meet electrical building regulations and you can feed your sense of humour for 2 whole days!!!!

I'm only joking BAS- don't take it personally.

Can anyone help sort out the wiring for my GARDEN OFFICE DOWNLIGHTS?

View media item 76060
I'll post pictures of the CONSUMER UNIT if it'll help.

It's just that I don't know much about BUILDING REGS and PART P.

Anyone?????? :D

Is this a catch and release forum?

There's certainly OCEANS of excellent information ABOAT electrical installations available here. I'm sure you can all SEA what I mean.

I'm so sick of TRAWLING through forums in order to get the correct advice on the installation of new wiring circuits.

I would have been at a TURTLE loss had it not been for Ban-All-Shed's excellent electrical advice.

WHALE all have to thank him for his excellent input on my thread- he's helped us all immensely.

Hope you all enjoyed my maritime tomfoolery. My thanks to Ban-All-Sheds who fell for it- HOOK, LINE and SINKER.

Thanks Fresnobob.

Unfortunately the thread got a little sidetracked lately- a shame really because I wanted it just to be a chronicle of my build process with pictures.

However, I've got a bank holiday ahead of me, so I intend to finish the majority of the project over the next three days- will have some photo updates soon.

Nice work on the garden building.......better work giving BAS an intellectual kicking - you've taught me quite a few new words in the process! Thanks!

Couldn't agree more with you, Fresno.

Got some more of the decking done yesterday- I bit the bullet and bought a good compound mitre saw to hurry things along. Can't believe I hand-sawed all of the cladding- could have done it 4 times as quick with my new toy.

Converting the garage next, so I'll definitely get my money's worth out of it.

Doing some more decking today, maybe get the guttering done, and some internal joinery.

Photo updates maybe later today- definitely before the end of the bank holiday.
