Hi,

I've just moved into a new home. It's very old and needs lots of work!

We have no hot water, but we do have gas and an electric shower.

We have a water tank in the loft which has a tap and a tap downstairs, next to the bathroom.

I wrote this when the gasman called me before we moved in:

"If there's water above tank in the spare room, turn the stop cock off in the loft, because that's the one that links to the water tank in the corner of the loft (a small one, above the storage/tank cupboard in the bedroom)." But it's all confusing to me.

How do we get hot water, please?

Many thanks.

Did the previous occupiers remove the gas boiler ?
You need to find the gas boiler,it could be on a wall,on the floor,in a cupboard or behind a gas fire

A safety check before turning on the gas boiler is advisable :!:

Edit,is an immersion heater fitted,if so switch it on.

It's a back boiler, behind the fire place (one of the many things to replace!)

Would that have an immersion heater?

Had a gas safety test before we moved in too

Does your ch work ? if not is your pilot flame lite by looking under your fire ?

This is under the fire. I've just turned this on; should that do it?!

It makes a clicking and a buzzing for about 30 seconds, turns off for a second, then back on for another 30 seconds and repeat.

Should this be firing up the back boiler??

Central heating doesn't work either.

Sorry, just didn't understand. It's working now! Thanks.

With a back boiler, are you meant to leave them on all the time? Or switch it on when needs be?

It does not have a permanent pilot,it is electronic ignition.Does not need to be on constantly.
