My 2nd problem is...

Have a Glow worm 65-80B Space Saver around 30 years old.

The pilot ignites and will stay lit for hours when the burners are not alight.

The problem is that once the burners ignite, the control valve cuts off the gas for no apparent reason after a period of time. It may be 10 minutes, it maybe 3 hours. The gas maybe cut off when the burners are alight or when they go out when the stat cuts them out. Either way the thermocouple is glowing red hot at the time the gas cuts out.

The pilot fame burns blue as it hits the thermocouple, which is glowing red all the time. I have checked the connection at the valve end which is sound.

I have replaced the thermocouple, which certainly improved the situation as originally the problem was the the pilot wouldn't stay alight at all.

My only other suspicion is that it is the control valve, in which case given the age of the boiler is it really worth the cost of a new valve?

Thanks for any help

There's a couple of other things it can be, and if you need a gas valve, it depends which one it is. This one is common, and expensive, but there are secondhand ones about for applications like yours.
