Dear All
Gas fire,
I have a gas fire that heats up artificial coal, it operates by pushing the lever down. Hearing the spark, hold it for few seconds until the thermocouple heats up then start firing. To turn it off we used to lift the lever back up. We recently put on for half an hour and the flam goes very low but it does not went to turn off completely even if we left the lever right up. Any idea.
Thanks in advance

Make and model of fire would help but an appliance that won`t turn off with controls is classed as immediatley dangerous and should be isolated

Thanks for the advice, I managed to turn if off by turning the mains off for few minutes then , put it back on for few minutes, turn it off again without problem, it only does this when it has been on for while i.e when it is very hot. I can not see any name or model from where I am looking.

The lever is connected to a cable which goes down to the gas valve & ignition micro switch, it sounds like the cable needs adjusting. Look in your manual for the fire & it should tell you how to do it.

Keego,
That is correct, the lever is connected to an assembly, and it is the gas valve, I will look at it closely tomorrow day time, it looks like a mechanical problem not something to do with the gas valve it self, is it? What I mean is that, it is not the gas valve of the fire failing!!!

If its a valor fire most of their models have to be sealed with aluminium tape across the base to prevent flame reversal and a build up of heat affecting the microswitch causing it to remain on.

Ollski,
many thanks for the reply, it does make sense what you are saying, i checked the cable that connects the lever at the top with the gas valve assembly, it is very tight. Do you mean that I have to cover everything across the base that located under the try which carry the artificial coal, Or just the miccoswitch that connected to the lever.

Dear all,
I have lookes underneath the fire and pulled out a tag contains the name, serial number and GC no
It is
Valor
Serial number no 624482
GC no. 32-811-37
I checked the cable which is very tight and well connected
The micro switch does not get hot at all no meter how long I leave the fore on

Also found out that sometimes the fire comes on after less then 10 seconds then stays on, other times I have to keep holding the lever more then 1 minutes before the fire start coming on. This leave me with one conclusion that is the thermocouple is playing,. Is this the case, please help and anyone can send me a manual or directed to where I can get it.

www.partsarena.com/baxi .But number you give is for a visage/adorn .these don`t work on a cable system .They are connected from slide control on the side by a long lever with a joint near bottom then onto tap assy . There is 2 microswitches on these 1 ignition microswitch and 1 off microswitch.
The off switch often plays up on these.
But by sound of it yours is one of those jobs you need to sat infront off to check several things

Namsag,
Many thanks for the reply, you are right. It is not a cable. And yes I can see the two micro switches the ignition one is at the bottom and the off micro switch is on top of it. My understanding is the thermocouple either work or not do noy play up. That is why I was not quite sure if it is. But you think it is the Off switch is plying up.

Hi Namsag,
Thanks for your advice it was the off microswitch playing up it cost me £16 from my local heating spare parts shop, changed it , problem solved. Many thanks to every one replied to this post
