Gas Valve issue in old boiler

Loud near-drilling sound was coming from my boiler the other morning after switching it on. Was still able to get heating and hot water during this. Later on that evening, switched boiler on again and there wasn't a chirp out of it and hearing/hot water again fine.
Next morning I was back to square one, however. Called out BG engineer who diagnosed it was the gas valve to blame..He searched for a part (within the parameters if BG) and told me it's obsolete (admittedly it is an old boiler) and new boiler time.
I am guessing that there is no option.for the valve to be examined and repaired or does it always come down to a replacement?
I am in the process of contacting local private gas engineers to see if they can source a part from any of their merchant anyway.

You'd need to find a trustworthy plumber who is prepared to order a spare (eg: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252450280750) and between you carry the risk that it's compatible, correct part, etc.

Thanks, fellas. I have already contacted a few local places and they are happy to look at trying to help me and advise. Hopefully one cheaper than that one on eBay.

Given the age of the boiler, a gas valve for that is not going to be cheap as they'll be like hens teeth, unless it's 2nd hand.

Had another assessment done on this one as Sime themselves confirmed the part was available, not obsolete at all. Glad I did too as, thanks to a second engineer being more specific and a lot clearer in his diagnosis, established that it the SIME 6187611 AMISCO COIL 220V. Modurec which needs replaced. Think I will need all the luck in the world to find that since Sime themselves admit that this part can't be sourced anywhere anymore. Unless someone on here knows different.

Anyone who thinks they know where this part can be sourced, I'd be sincerely grateful if you could respond here. Thank you.

That part is well obsolete. If Sime say it's available ask them where.

I haven't seen one of those boilers in over ten years. There is a secondhand one on ebay that maybe worth taking a punt on assuming your engineer will fit it:

After a second engineer visit, I learned that it is the Modurec specifically that needs replacing and not the full valve after all. See my post of a few hours ago above. Thanks anyway. The first engineer just kept stating gas valve. Today's fella was more specific and identified that component.

yes - that's great he has identified the component but if the gas valve isn't available then there's no point n knowing what component is dead as any component parts will be long gone, even before the last valve went, so it basically comes back to - it needs a gas valve.

Are there any part numbers from the actual valve available?
