Apologies if this seems noddy, fairly green to DIY and want to learn and do whatever I need to myself.

I need to put a gate up against this wall. Want to stop the dog before she ruins the grass.

My plan is some aluminium gate posts against the wall as that would fit with the design of the existing garden gate with a strap hinge onto a wooden gate, treat it all up and paint it black.

I plan on having a swinging gate on each side of the steps and latch them together in the middle as its a relatively wide gap.

Does this seem feasible, any suggestions?

Plan for drilling into the wall would be build up in diameter avoiding hammer action to protect the render.

Would I need an sds drill to get through the wall, im not sure of the construction material under the render.

Will I need to postcrete the posts or will they be sturdy enough in the wall?

Thanks in advance.

What's the point in using aluminium gate posts if you fit a timber gate? You might need an SDS, it depends how hard the wall is. You shouldn't need any postcrete, you'll need to fit your posts say 75mm back from the face of the wall to ensure you get a good fixing. I would use simple plugs and screws.

Posts that are attached to a solid wall do not need to be sunk into the ground.

Keeping them spaced away from the ground will prevent them rotting from damp.
