As part of out level 3 this year we have been given a topic to discuss with the class and make a 15minute presentation in relation to this topic. I have been given the following :-

" The implications on heating controls with the recent update of Building Regulations Part L Conservation of Fuel and Energy".

I have done a fair amount of background information in relation to what i want to do but some advice would be appreciated or if you think i am going way off track please say.

1. Define what Part L means, its introduction and impact on Heating Controls.
2. Explain what controls are covered i.e Thermostatic Rad valves, programmers, 2port vales, 3port valves, room stat, cylinder stat, frost stat, define what boiler interlock system of controls means.
3. The various systems and how these controls operate to make them more energy efficient.
4. Condensing Boilers, how they are more energy efficient than combi's,SEBUK ratings what it means.
5. How your energy rating for your systems has an impact on your SAP rating and how this influences your HIP score etc.

Does this sound ok to you experianced guys out there? what i really could use if anyone has links too is some good diagrams of a S plan system, y plan system and a diagram showing a gravity feed system plz.

Many thanx Paul.

so in relation to the task you have been given, I expect your lecturer expects you to do the investigation yourself, and learn from the experience.

I do not think the lecturers intention was that you trotted off to an internet forum and and get others to provide the work for you.

you have search facilities? after all you found this forum? use you finger tips and study the topics mentioned.

I expect that your tutor wants you to actually discuss the topic with your class! Surprising but.....

WDIK please read again what i am asking for. I dont recall anywhere basically saying i want anyone to provide me with the answers as the majority of the material as already been collected and made into a Powerpoint presentation with the exception of the few diagrams I have asked for. Is it so hard just to ask ppls opinion without being made to be some sort of schoolboy looking for easy answers.

ok i accept your intention, perhaps you would do better to tell us what you think about these points and then we could pass comment?

just take any one point and show us what you have come up with.

Namsag perhaps "given a topic to discuss with the class " is not a true title. We have each been given a different title, we are to go away and research some background information and with the aid of for example Powerpoint provide a 15minute presentation on our chosen topic. Its like doing a short " teach the class for 15minutes " lesson. I'm just missing some half decent system diagrams to illustrate how the inclusion of the heating controls operate the different systems.

Check out the Honeywell site.

You have to realise that the modern methods you are being taught by will probably be quite alien to most of us 'old farts'

Hope you pay more attenton in class as you replied to me and i never said anything

Have a look around this site, it will give you simple non-technical explanations for heating bits & bobs. You should find ample for a 15 min presentation. Remember to practise, practise, practise to give a good presentation, dont try to wing it.

I had to do something similar when an apprentice. We had to do a 15 minute presentation on gas controls.

My sincere apologies namsag, was getting a bit miffed with 1 or 2 of the repsonses, nevertheless no excuses on my part.

No probs taff , could think of nothing worse than being mistaken for Agile
