Should I as a "competent diy'er" be able to purchase a diverter valve for a Ravenheat 84ET.Whilst I accept that it is a gas appliance,I am only fitting a diaphragm operated control valve on the water even though it is a means of sending a message to the gas valve.
One company even states "If you are not Corgi registered,we reserve the right to charge you 25% extra.?????????????????????????????

You can buy what you like, and you can fit it as long as you're competent to work on a gas appliance. Start with the diaphragm - much easier and might solve your problem!

many thanks Chris.Any idea of an average price.I am getting quotes of between £40 ish' and £100 ish.

Some of the cheap and supposedly compatible diverter valves, aren't. You need a crowbar to get them in  .
