Gloss on top of Gloss

Tell me if I'm right please.

Four Doorframes with ten year old gloss on need repainting.
Key up the frames - got a mouse sander - then splosh more gloss on.

Dont have to go mad with sanding, just enough for the gloss to bite.
Do I need a primer or undercoat (are they the same thing?)

Just sand down the old paint remove lumps & bumps, give it a good clean & repaint
