hi all, since we moved in about 2 years ago the hot water in the kitchen has never heated up when leaving the tap on for a bit, it is a combi boiler but you have to put the heating on to heat up the water. as you can imagine this isnt ideal in the summer.

i think the boiler is at least 10 years old and although we would rather not have to, we do have the money (just) to replace it. before i waste money getting someone in to look at it im just wondering if anyone knows if its something that can be fixed and if its worth it or whether we would be better off buying a new one?

cheers

Flow switches are prone to failure and are easily replaced. Heat exchangers are prone to blockage. Need to be in front of boiler to diagnose correctly. They're not the worst boiler you could have and worth getting a boiler repair specialist in.

take it you never changed a flow switch on on this boiler then

The soft copper pipes inside are obsolete now, Worth knowing if you get the isolation valves, pump or low water pressure swicth failed.

Flow switch change is a pig. As is the gas valve and the fan and the pump etc etc

Just as well then that these are pretty reliable and the only common fault is the fan fails as a result of a lack of annual clean.

After the fan ( 90% ) the PCB makes up most of the rest of the faults but as they are at a stupid price I usually resolder them. That gets the boiler going again and save a return visit and gives a cheap repair for the customer.

adl, I wish I had a fiver for everyone I've done. I found them quite easy to change, can't see the problem. :?:

I'd have to agree. Flow switch is a doddle, whip the burner out for access 20 mins tops.gas valve, slide the pcb housing out and bobs yer uncle, all there in front of you.the fan can be a pain if the 2 screws or the spades break but not a real pita.

The spade connectors on the fan are just pushed into the plastic coil former and contact the wire by pressure.

If you just pull the connector off its very likely to pull the male spade out of the coil former. It may not push back in and contact the wire. Another expensive mistake.

But as with all permanent pilot boilers the fan needs to be removed and washed at the annual service.
