My boiler will not give hot water every time.
Depending on which tap you turn depends whether the boiler ignites to heat the water. The shower is the worst and takes ages for hot water to come out.
Also, the hot water can go cold, even though the hot tap is still switched on.

The central heating is no problem, heats up very quickly.

Any ideas?

diaphragm worn, most likely.
spindle stuck or microswitch broken are also possibilities

Ok. Remove the front cover(slides up, might be 2 nuts holding it on at top)
lower front panel (2 screws)
You will see this t the right hand side.

Remove the retaining clip and remove the microswitch from the diaphragm.
Open a hot tap and observe the pin. It should extend out quickly and far enough to activate the microswitch in the black housing. Try different taps and the pin should behave exactly the same for every tap. If it seems to be ok, next step is to test the switch, open a tap, and poke something small and thin into the hole in the microswitch housing, and just gently touch to switch so you can hear it click. Try it a few times, each time the boiler should fire.
If the pin fails then you need a new diaphragm, and so so for switch. Both very easy to replace, even for a DIYer.
