Hi, I have been having issues with my glowworm micron boiler. Last week it started to heat the water for a few minutes then cut out and I had to reset the boiler. Now it needs to be reset every few minutes. I have had two plumbers look at the issue. First plumber replaced the pump. He said the heated water was not getting away from the boiler, and therefore the boiler was overheating. New pump didn't solve the issue. Second plumber presumed that the was a blockage in the system. He powerflushed the system and cleared lots of black sludge. However the powerflush has not cured the problem, the plumber recommends replacing the boiler. It is s gloworm micron 60ff about 7-8 years old. It is an open vented system. I wanted to try and get another opinion before I bite the bullet and shell out for a new boiler . Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Don't ditch the boiler, and get the system fixed. Proper heating engineer should be able to fix it.

I am sorry that you seem to have engaged two "plumbers" who have not between them solved your problem completely and probably charged you quite a lot as well. I always wonder what they say when it does not solve the fault!

Having said that if the system was all black and sludged up, then what they have done was probably reasonable and will be a benefit for you as long as the power flushing was done properly using the right chemicals.

It seems that there is a problem with your boiler itself but neither of the "plumbers" were able to realise or diagnose the cause.

Its always best to get someone who will diagnose the fault properly!

Best to have someone who specialises in boiler repairs, often called a boiler engineer rather than a "plumber".

Thanks Tony, think I will have to get a boiler specialist. Any ideas what might be wrong with boiler?? The flow pipe coming out of the boiler gets very hot but the heat is not getting away!!

Its a lack of flow as both the others have correctly identified.

The question is why!

I have read other posts which mention a blockage in the heat exchanger. Does this seem likely?? If so il mention it to the boiler engineer thanks again Tony

I have not been there so all I can say is that anything is possible!

What lockout light are you gettin on the boiler?

The micron will tell you why it has locked out by the lights that flash in what order, refer then to the MI's to find why its locking out.

PCB's are poo on the micron as are the thermistors.

First thing check the lockout light for its reason!

Hi reset led is lit constantly, according to MI it's a non visible lockout

I take it you mean "non volatile lockout"?

1) I would start by bleading all air points through the system as heat spikes with cause this fault.

2) Then the PCB's are very known to be poor (think the got onto version 8 at one point) but replace the thermistor at the same time.

3) Also try lower the boiler stat to 1/4 and see if the fault still happens.

Did you get your money back for the powerflush?
