This was a CU in another trolly room. Live.
An electrician had called in and replaced the main switch, after the melt down, so the board would still work!
Apparently, he did say its 'Only a temporary solution' !!

When I asked how long its been like this, 'About a year I think' was the answer.

They did stand a fire extinguisher next to it though, so thats all good.

I find the lead acid battery interesting, specially with electric vehicles, I have had, wheel chairs, mobility scooters, and now a caravan with motor mover, these unlike the milk float and fork lift can be re-charged much slower, there is really no need for the stage charger, they rarely fully discharge the battery, and often have days or weeks available to recharge the battery, the main thing is a charger which one can set and forget.

With this in mind I got the Lidi 3.8A battery charger, clip it on, press button and forget. However even at 0.1A I note the voltage on a 12 volt battery 75Ah can hit 14.5 volt which to my mind is a bit on the high side, the chair lift batteries lasted well used every day, but again when not used seems the voltage goes a bit on the high side, 30 volt on two 12 volt 7Ah batteries, seems they rely on being used to hold the voltage down.

Point is change of practice can cause problems, a simple change from the golfer putting them on charge to the greens-man putting them on charge could result in the extra load.
