I have a 1996 golf SE wich runs fine. However when braking hard coming to a stop the revs have a tendency to drop and stall the engine, led to believe it may be a split hose or vacuum pipe ? any kind soul care to further speculate
Thanks

Probably, as you say, a split or fallen off vaccuum hose. Failing that then the ISV probably needs a clean along with the throttle body

Could be a leaky master cylinder, if you press the brake pedal hard while stationary with the engine running (as if heavy braking) can you hear sucking?? does the engine die??

Does it die only when you brake? Or does it die too when it reaches idle?

Sounds like it could be an electrical problem as it happens when you press the brake (and thus you light all three braking lights). Like its taking the power needed to keep sparking the engine to the lights instead.

carburetta maybe, had same problem on a old alfa romeo, started like that then quickly turned to explosive ignition with flames leaping outa carb with many of time me leaping out the car
