I'm doing the stair strings which are pretty battered.

Presumably 2 pack stuff is the way to go? Can anyone recommend?

Something from Screwfix etc that easy to use.

Yeah 2 pack filler. You will need to remove/sand the flaking paint first.

With stair strings, I normally fill and then use an oscillating saw (or similar) to make a very slight gap between horizontal and vertical surfaces. That however is only when there is evidence of the paint/filler bridging both surfaces cracking (when stair carpet runners are going to be used). In such cases I fill the intentional gap with CT1 rather than caulk to accommodate any slight movement.

If you plan to use a lot of 2 pack filler over the next year or two, of all places, Halfords is my go to physical store for the 3L U-pol Easy One 2 pack filler (£25). Unfortunately, they will not deliver. Having just checked, someone on ebay is selling it for the same price with free delivery. Not often that happens.

Easy One is my go to two pack filler. It will slump if you are filling deep horizontal holes but those I do in several hits. The Ronseal stuff will slump less but per L is 3 times more expensive. That said, the Ronseal is available in white, which might be advantageous for small jobs on painted woodwork.
