gravel over existing slabs

Hi,

Is it wise to put gravel over existing paving slabs without taking these out?

It would only be subjected to foot traffic. I've got horrible looking raised decking there at the moment which I want to take out.

Thanks

Whats the drainage like for that particular area of slab? is it a main water run off area?

it's an area of around 20 square meters and it is at the side of the house.
The existing slabs drain the water towards a gully so i would also need some sort of gully mesh to prevent the gravel from dropping in the gully (assuming i can lay it over existing slabs).
