Yup, you're right.
No, it will not create more pressure as both tanks are on same level, but will store more water.
If you want more pressure, raise the tanks up. A metre up will create 0.1 bar, for 1 bar you need to raise up 10 metre higher, not possible in loft lol!
Or a pump?

Bigger pipe will give you a better flow rate though.
