Hi

I am sorry if this has been answered many times before, but I have found that there is a crusty dry green build up around some of the compression fittings in my house.

It looks as if there has been a very small leak which stopped some time ago and has left this green crusty stuff.

Is this normal ? What causes it ?

Many thanks in advance.

A slight water leak. Probably the crust has sealed it now. It is probably a mixture of limescale and green copper salts. You can polish it off with green nylon pan scourer and an old toothbrush, then you will easily see if it happens again. You might stop it by tightening the nut a fraction, but for a proper job you will need to take the fitting apart, which may be tiresome and involve draining down, so clean them up first and see if you still have a problem.
